Types Of Commercial Speakers

For a business that needs a musical ambiance or has to make official announcements time and again, domestic speakers or the ones people use at home may not make the cut. Business spaces have their own aerodynamics and requirements, wherein only commercial speakers can fit in. However, there is no standard or universal commercial speaker. In fact, there are multiple commercial speakers that differ from each other in terms of their output, design, functionality, etc. The following are some of the popular types:

In-Ceiling Speaker

In-ceiling speakers are easy to install in commercial establishments, particularly in buildings that have drop ceilings with sufficient space over the acoustic tiles. When buying commercial ceiling speakers, spare a thought for the speaker frame and whether you would have sufficient space to fit the speaker between the load-bearing roof and drop ceiling. When talking to a system designer, ensure you describe the ceiling specifics in impeccable detail.

Pendant Speaker

A pendant speaker is a good ceiling speaker alternative. These speakers are suspended in mid-air by ceiling-anchored cables. High-ceiling rooms would find pendant speakers ideal. Thanks to the hanging mechanism, the speaker can be brought closer to the listener.

Surface-Mount Speaker

A surface-mount speaker is equipped with mounting brackets, which helps mount the speaker almost anywhere. Though the speaker isn’t the most decor-friendly or aesthetically-pleasing as an in-ceiling speaker, a surface-mount speaker is reasonably good looking and can be installed easily.

Horn Loudspeaker

Often, a horn-type speaker or horn loudspeaker can be seen in large outdoor or indoor venues, where the clarity of the sound isn’t the most sought-after trait. The loudness is something that’s needed the most, which should be robust enough to ensure no announcement or important call skips a human ear in the venue. Most horns do not play extreme low or high frequencies; they usually bring together all their might to clearly play the vocal range. These speakers are typically weather-resistant, which explains their popularity in stadiums and on racetracks.

Indoor/Outdoor (Weather-Resistant) Speakers

Want music by your side when in a swimming pool or at a patio? If yes, you probably need weather-resistant speakers. These speakers are capable of playing music even when dipped completely in water. Not many speakers can claim to possess such versatility and functionality. By the way, these speakers are also called “all-weather speakers”.

Other Music Components

A commercial audio system is not just about the speaker but also an amplifier, wire, and volume controls, to name a few. Most commercial sound systems incorporate just one amplifier to power all the speakers tagged to the setup. An amplifier should have multiple features and sufficient power to handle the various audio system requirements. A wire helps pass the electrical current necessary to power up the system, and volume controls helps control audio volume.
