A household donation starts with a quick inspection, not a trip to the car. Empty bags and boxes onto a clear floor, then separate clothing, books, kitchenware, toys, electronics, and furniture. Clothing should be clean and completely dry.
Dishes, appliances, and other household goods should be intact and reasonably clean. Set aside anything wet, moldy, heavily stained, broken, sharp, or unsafe.
This pre sorting step prevents unsuitable material from getting mixed with reusable goods and saves time at the receiving site. It also gives you a realistic idea of whether the load suits a bin, a staffed location, or a scheduled pickup.
