Located in Thailand, the islands of Ko Phi Phi are situated between the Straits of Malacca and Phuket. There are two islands with the Ko Phi Phi name. They are Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Le. They are a part of a group of six islands, but the other islands in the group are basically just rocks sticking out the water. They are known for having spectacular views and also great diving.
Their locations are so remote that you have to reach them via speedboats. Surprisingly, they are a part of a National Park that is filled with different types of things that divers will find interesting to explore. This is why Koh Phi Phi diving is a favorite pastime.
This popular tourist destination is known for its amazing beauty as well as its fame. It was the filming location for the movie entitled “Beach.” It gave moviegoers a chance to soak in the beauty of Maya Beach and other hot spots in the Andaman Sea.
In addition to wonderful views of longtail boats and beautiful limestone landmarks, the area also has magical finds below its turquoise waters. Imagine exploring an island that has white sandy beaches on the surface and crystal-clear blue waters filled with spectacular finds beneath the surface.
One of the good things about Koh Phi Phi diving is that not only is it very beautiful, but it is also very inexpensive when compared to many other global diving destinations. Although, there are plenty of diving opportunities all during the year, the best time to go is between February and May. This is when you’ll get the best visibility.
Maya Cave
As mentioned above, if you’ve seen the movie “Beach,” then you might recognize the scenery. It has a wall that leads to many different caves and tunnels. Understand that you won’t be allowed to swim at this location unless you are a very experienced diver. However, once there, you can expect to see plenty of colorful marine life such as moray eels, leopard sharks and scorpion fish.
Hin Dot
Accessible from the shore, this particular site is also known as Chimney Rock. It has structures that have both hard and soft corals. Although it is deemed adequate for all divers, advanced divers will probably enjoy it more due to its lower levels. Also note that the waters at this site have a strong current.
Shark Point Phi Phi Dive
As a diver, who wouldn’t want to be adventurous and check out a dive site named “Shark Point?” There are plenty of Leopard sharks in the area, and this is one of the best places to see them. There is a large rock at the sight that goes down 72 feet. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll see sharks resting on the sand. The good thing about the Leopard Shark is that it usually does not bother humans. In addition to sharks, Shark Point has plenty of other marine to see such as sea urchins, tropical fish and coral. All in all, there are plenty of great spots for diving in Koh Phi Phi.
